Hugh
Hugh has played bass guitar with Knotted Chord since about 1986 and still joins the band occasionally for some of the more northerly gigs.

Hugh is something of a veteran of the North East music scene. An R&B fan to start with, he cut his (musical) teeth as ‘crew’ for local Rhythm and Blues bands.

His first major experience as a ritual dance musician was when asked to play for Redcar sword at Chippenham Folk Festival 1987. He is also a founder member of Black Sheep border morris.

A lover of Cajun music for many years, Hugh then went on to help organise the Defenders, a band that specialised in the similarly ethnic ‘Tex-Mex’ style.

His regular ceilidh band is ‘Accordance’ with a line up of bass, twin fiddles and accordion based in his home town of Darlington.

He plays melodion for Great North Clog and Richmond Castle Cloggers, and also plays octave mandola, mandolin, and tenor banjo.

In his spare (?!) time, he admits to being the complete anorak - helping to restore steam locos (he is a member of N.E.L.P.G.) - and he still enjoys sticking the odd piece of plastic together. There are also two railway layouts to keep him going.
